Middle school youth participating in the Hannah Project this summer developed their own resolution on ending childhood poverty. They offered a call to action for all of us to “imagine ending child poverty in our county, in our state, in our nation NOW.” They likened childhood poverty to being on punishment. That being poor “means that you have to go without. You have to go without good and nutritious food, decent housing, healthy neighborhoods, or schools that address your needs or celebrate your culture. It amounts to 'cruel and unusual' punishment that must be abolished.”
